Roaches and palmetto bugs
Cockroach control in Columbia, SC.
Warmth and humidity support roach activity across South Carolina. The right plan depends on whether insects are breeding indoors or entering from outside.

Signs and conditions
Night sightings deserve attention.
- Roaches seen after dark in kitchens or bathrooms
- Droppings around cabinets, appliances, or storage
- Large palmetto bugs entering garages or living areas
- Moisture, food residue, cardboard, or clutter near activity
- Repeat sightings after aerosol sprays
Identify the pattern
Indoor breeding and outside entry are different problems.
Natural Roots can inspect likely hiding areas, moisture, sanitation factors, and exterior access. Targeted treatment and practical prevention work better than repeatedly spraying the insect that happens to appear.
Useful evidence
Size, location, and frequency narrow the possibilities.
Photograph a specimen when it is safe to do so and note whether the insect is large or small, where it appeared, and what time it was seen. Check without dismantling appliances for spotting, shed skins, or egg cases near sinks, cabinet corners, pantry edges, refrigerators, dishwashers, and other warm or damp areas.
A large roach near a garage door after heavy rain suggests a different route than repeated small roaches in a kitchen cabinet. See why nighttime activity matters.
Reduce what supports them
Dry, clean, and close practical access.
Repair accessible leaks, dry sinks overnight when practical, store food and pet food in closed containers, remove grease and crumbs, and reduce cardboard kept near activity. Replace damaged screens or door sweeps and report plumbing or utility gaps rather than sealing an active harborage blindly.
After treatment, follow cleaning and monitoring directions carefully. Scrubbing every treated crack or adding an incompatible aerosol can interfere with the plan. Report whether sightings become less frequent, move to another area, or begin occurring during the day.
Columbia + the Midlands
Warmth and moisture support both indoor and outdoor roach species.
Columbia-area kitchens, bathrooms, garages, crawl spaces, drains, and exterior openings can provide water or shelter. Rain and humidity may increase outside entry, while repeated smaller roaches indoors can point to a different pattern that needs prompt identification.

Cockroach questions
What nighttime activity can mean.
Are palmetto bugs cockroaches?
“Palmetto bug” is a common regional name for certain large cockroaches. Identification still matters because behavior and treatment differ by species.
Why do roaches come out at night?
Many species are more active when the home is quiet and dark, especially near food, water, and sheltered cracks.
Does one roach mean an infestation?
Not always, particularly with a large outdoor species, but repeated sightings or smaller indoor species should be inspected.
Why do roaches sometimes appear after heavy rain?
Rain and changing moisture can increase pressure from outdoor species and push them toward garages, doors, drains, and other sheltered access points.
How service works
Inspect. Respond. Protect.
Every recommendation starts with evidence from the home and ends with clear next steps.
01Inspect
Look for activity, access, moisture, shelter, and the conditions supporting the problem.
02Respond
Match the service plan to the pest, wildlife issue, property, and level of activity.
03Protect
Explain follow-up and practical changes that can reduce repeat pressure.
Stop the repeat sightings
